Renzhi Li (李韌之  汕頭大學外文系教授)主編  Modality in English and Chinese: a Typological Perspenctive (Antwerp, 2003)之“Acknowledgements“有這樣一句話：I have specific debts of gratitude for Dr. Johan van der Auwera for his continuous encouragement, critical comments, and luminous directions.　　

然而, have specific debts of gratitude for sb. for sth. 卻是不符合英美語言習慣的Chinglish, 在英美語中習慣用法是owe a debt of gratitude to sb. for sth.，實際上，已經成了一個idiom，只是有時在debt之前加上一個形容詞。
