(7) 用于逢整十數詞的復數名詞前，指世紀中的年代或人的約略年歲。如：

He began to learn French in his fifties. 他五十多歲開始學習法語。

He went to Japan with his family in the sixties. 他在六十年代帶家人去了日本。

(8) 表示計算單位，含有 a, each, per 之類的意義。如：

He is paid by the hour (piece). 他拿計時(件)工資。

It sells at two dollars the pound. 這東西每磅賣兩美元。

11)用于江、(運)河、海、洋以及山脈、群島、半島、海島、 海峽、沙漠等名稱的前。如：

注：在湖名前是否用冠詞通常要分兩種情況，一般說來，中國的湖名在英譯時，其前通常用定冠詞；而外國的湖名，多數不用冠詞，少數用冠詞，具體視習慣而定。如：
