stop后接不定式和動名詞的用法區別

動詞stop后既可接不定式也可接動名詞，不僅意思不同，而且性質也不同：

(1) 后接動名詞時，意思是“停止做某事”，其中的動名詞是賓語，表示“停止”的對象。如：

It’s about time you stopped being so idle. 你飽食終日無所事事這下該改一改了吧。

Let’s stop chatting and get down to basics. 我們別再閑聊了，靜下心來干些要緊的事吧。

Her story was so funny that we couldn’t stop laughing. 她講了個非常滑稽的故事，使我們笑個不停。

The little horror never stops playing tricks on his parents. 那個小淘氣不斷地捉弄他的父母。

 (2) 后接不定式時，意思是“停下來去做某事”，其中的不定式不是賓語，而是狀語，表示目的。如：

Very few ever stopped to listen. 很少人停下來聽。

He stopped to rest his horse. 他停下來讓馬休息一會兒。

The bus stopped to pick up passengers. 公共汽車停下來接客。

Jeff stopped to get a drink of water. 杰夫停下來喝了杯水。

On the way to the station I stopped to buy a paper. 在去火車站的路上，我停下來買了一張報紙。
