表示“在……期間”時，over 通常用于較短的時間，對于較長的時間通常用 through 或 throughout。如：
Let’s talk about it over dinner. 我們吃飯時談吧。
He stayed there through [throughout] the summer. 整個夏天他都在那里。
但在現代英語中，也常見到 over the last five years(在過去的5年中)這樣用于較長時間的用例。
