但有一點與whatthat2003網友有分歧：就是我認為這里as從句所修飾的只是young voters而不是整個主句as many young voters showed up,句子如果補全的話，應該是：even if as many young voters showed up as some people had hope (young voters) would show up ,conversative white christians did show up .括號部分(young voters) 為定語從句中所充當的成分，綠色部分省略突出了句子的簡潔性，比較的是the young voters who showed up 和 the young voters some people had hoped would show up   即數量上是相當的。

我是覺得：

如果as是替代某一名詞的，一般來說，緊貼as的前面必然會顯示該名詞，而當前的句子中，緊貼as的前面不是名詞，而是動詞showed up。　　

定語從句的關聯詞弄了好幾個，這就不得不去理解其內涵，一開始到現在我都腦袋痛——英語中讓你理解和記憶的東西太多了。　　

我覺得：as many young voters showed up表明的是一件實事，所以要用as，而不能用that等。　　

我也和Qinjianyu有相同的看法，認為這里應該是修飾young voters

但是我和Qinjianyu有分岐的地方在于我認為這里是一個比較句，而不是一個定語句。

而是一個狀語從句

說as some people had hoped是狀語從句，邏輯上也說得通。那樣的話，譯文就得有所變動了。

我只所以把它用上面的形式翻譯出來，是因為支持as作定語的學者認為這里不是一個比較句，因為定語從句的一個特征就是可以用并列句翻譯出來。意思又沒有太大的改變。

我還是說有很多語法家同意它是定語從句，但是我認為說它是比較句的學者更能言之成理，

總之我認為通過他們的分析我們更清楚的明白一個句子的意思是我們學習語法的最初目的不是嗎？

我們看如果選A會有什么情況發生--兩個并列句沒有連詞，也就是傳說中的逗號句。這在考試中肯定是不允許的，盡管事實上逗號句也存在，但是我們始終不知道它的使用條件是什么（陳老師有文章專門說過逗號句）

C就變成了主從句可以沒有連詞

我覺得：　　

從語法結構看句子的表意，和究竟怎么翻譯，不是一回事。　　

翻譯分為的類型有三種吧：直譯、轉譯、意譯；　　

翻譯的效果也有三種：是地道的漢語、是英式漢語、是“甲骨文”（我和一些人就曾拜讀過國家正式出版物，里面的某章就是如此）　　

還有一個現象，外語課本后面所附的譯文：俄語的是就是“譯文”，而英語的卻是“參考譯文”　　

我的意見是這樣；

我們不能兩頭討論，你不能一方面討論結構，一方面討論意譯。

我們選擇一個語法模型去解釋一個現象應該是那個可以解釋的更加準確，從這個角度來看都應該是站在直譯的角度去討論。

至于到了操作層面，我們當然不可能死板的去翻譯，我們可能會增加沒有的詞，我們可能也會減詞，甚至我們把定語譯成狀語，把復合句譯成并列。

這都是一個操作層面上的事。不知道whatthat以為然否？
