如何翻譯these days

■《英漢雙解·劍橋國(guó)際英語(yǔ)詞典》的 toast (n.)詞條下有這樣一句(p.1462)：

Not so long ago Viviana was a little-known actress playing in a provincial theatre—these days she’s the toast of the town.

該詞典的翻譯是：

不久以前薇薇安娜還是一個(gè)在地方劇院演出的鮮為人知的演員——而這些天她成了鎮(zhèn)上極為受人敬慕的人。

■我們認(rèn)為將原句中的 these days 譯為“這些天”與本句上下文語(yǔ)境不太相符——按理說(shuō)，“不久以前”應(yīng)該與“現(xiàn)在”相對(duì)，而不是與“這些天”相對(duì)。

事實(shí)上，these days通常被作為習(xí)語(yǔ)看待，與《英漢雙解——?jiǎng)�橋�?guó)際英語(yǔ)詞典》同出一“家”的《劍橋高級(jí)英語(yǔ)詞典》對(duì)these days解釋是：used to talk about the present time, in comparison with the past（用于談?wù)摤F(xiàn)在，與過(guò)去相對(duì)照）；《牛津高階英漢雙解詞典》(第四版)對(duì)these days 的解釋是：nowadays（如今，當(dāng)今，現(xiàn)在）。

尤其是當(dāng) these days 用作主語(yǔ)時(shí)：

These days are cold. 這些天很涼。

但是，有些句子由于語(yǔ)境特殊，將 these days 譯為“這些天”會(huì)顯得很“怪”。如：

Jobs are hard to come by these days.

這個(gè)句子顯然只能譯為“近來(lái)工作很難找”，如果譯為“這些天來(lái)工作很難找”，那就讓人覺(jué)得很“怪”，因?yàn)椤肮ぷ麟y找”這一現(xiàn)象不是幾天工夫就會(huì)改變的。
