3. 用作關系代詞，主要用法有：

(1) 用在 such, same, as 等之后，引導限制性定語從句。如：

I live in the same place as Tom does. 我和湯姆住在同處。

Such people as knew him admired him. 認識他的人都欽佩他。

He smokes as expensive a cigarette as he can afford. 他抽一種他買得起的最貴的煙。

(2) 單獨用作關系代詞，引導非限制性定語從句，可放在主句之前(常譯為：正如)或之后(常譯為：這一點)，且主從句之間一般要用逗號隔開。如：

He was absent, as is often the case. 他缺席了，這是常有的事。

As was expected, he succeeded at last. 正如我們所料，他終于成功了。

◆ask v.

1. 可以接雙賓語。如：

Ask him his name. 問問他的名字。

She asked me what I wanted. 她問我想要什么。

有時雙賓語交換位置，借助介詞 of。如：

他來請我幫忙。

正：He came to ask me a favour.

正：He came to ask a favour of me.

他問了我一個問題。

正：He asked me a question.

正：He asked a question of me.

2. 與介詞的常見搭配：

(1) 與介詞 for 連用，有“要求得到”的意思。如：

She is always asking for money. 她老是要錢。

He asked 100 yuan for a box. 他要100元一箱。

有時單獨用 ask 也可表示 ask for 的意思。如：

He asked (for) the teacher’s advice. 他向老師征求意見。

=He asked the teacher for his advice. 他向老師征求意見。

(2) 與 about 連用，表示詢問或打聽關于某事的情況。如：

Ask (him) about the ring — he may have found it. 問問(他)你丟的戒指——也許他撿到了。

(3) 與 after 連用，表問候或問好。如：

He always asks after you in his letters. 他每次來信都向

你問候。

比較：

He asked her something. 他問她一個問題(或一件事)。

He asked her for something. 他問她要某東西。

He asked her about something. 他問她關于某事的問題。

3. 后接不定式或不定式的復合結構，表示要求做某事或要求某人做某事。如：

He asked to stay with us. 他要求和我們一起留下。

She asked me to post some letters. 她叫我寄幾封信。

4. 其后可接 that 從句，從句謂語通常用 should＋v。如：

He asked that he (should) be given a chance to explain it. 他要求給他機會解釋這件事。

以上一句也可用不定式來改寫：

He asked to be given a chance to explain it.

5. 有時后接帶介詞短語或副詞的復合結構。如：

He asked us to dinner. 他請我們吃飯。

You’d better ask him in (out, over). 你最好叫他進來(出來，過來)。

◆at prep.

用法較復雜，以下幾點需引起注意：

1. 表示“從事”或“正在做”，其后接的名詞往往(并不總是)不用冠詞。如：

at cards 在玩牌 at work 在工作 at war 在交戰

at lunch 在吃中飯 at table 在吃飯 at school 在上課

at the desk 在讀書 at the telephone 在打電話

2. 表示原因，意為“因……而……”、“因聽到……而……”。如：

He was pleased at the news. 他聽到那消息很高興。

He was surprised at what she said. 他聽到她的話很吃驚。

3. 表示對某事物的回應，有“一……就……”之意。如：

At a sign from him, I went over. 一看到他示意，我就走了過去。

4. 表示價格、速度、數額、程度等。如：

I bought the necktie at (the price of) 10 dollars each. 我以每條10美元(的價格)買下了這些領帶。

He was driving at 70 mph. 當時他在以每小時70英里的速度駕駛。

We are flying at 16500 feet. 我們在16500英尺的高空飛行。
