如果要表示從句中的動作或狀態延續至今，就應該用持續性動詞的現在完成時, 而不用一般過去時：

但個別時候有例外：即持續性動詞或狀態動詞的一般過去時也可以表示動作或狀態持續到現在(多半有ever修飾)：

其實, send表示的“送”, 與漢語中的“送”并不完全同義, 因為漢語中的“送”既可以表示自已親自送, 也可以指請人或通過某種手段間接地送;而英語中的send 通常只表示間接地送, 而不能指自己親自送。

My income is anything but large. 我的收入絕對不算多。

類似地, nothing but(意為：只有……, 只不過) 也有類似用法：
