3. 表示“交給”、“留給”、“讓(處于某種狀態(tài))”等，注意以下句型:

(1) 用于 leave sth to [with] sb, 意為“把某物交給 (委托給)某人”。如：

You’d better leave the matter to [with] me. 你最好把這事交給我辦。

I’ll leave everything to [with] you then. 那么我就把一切都交給你了。

(2) 用于 leave sb to do sth, 意為“讓某人去做某事”。如：

He left me to wash the clothes. 他讓我去洗衣服。

She left me to take care of her baby. 她托我照看她的嬰兒。

(3) 用于 leave sb doing sth, 意為“讓某人做某事(處于做某事的狀態(tài)中)”。如：

His letter left me feeling pretty bad. 他的信讓我感到很難受。

They walked off and left me sitting there all by myself. 他們走開(kāi)了，讓我孤零零一個(gè)人坐在那兒。

◆left & right n.，adj. & adv.

1. 用作名詞，left 表示“左邊”，right 表示“右邊”，是一組反義詞，但其用法較為相似：

(1) 其前通常有物主代詞或定冠詞修飾。如：

He doesn’t know his left from his right. 他分不清左右。

(2) 表示“在左(右)邊”，根據(jù)情況可用介詞 on, at, to。如：

Keep to the left (right). 靠左(右)通行。

He sat on [at, to] my left. 他坐在我的左邊。

The shop is on [at] the left of the road. 商店在馬路左邊。

注：若表示動(dòng)態(tài)地“向”左(右)邊，或指較遠(yuǎn)的距離時(shí)，通常要用介詞 to。如：

Then he looked to the left. 然后他向左邊看。

The post office is a few yards to the right of therailway station. 郵局在火車(chē)站右邊幾百碼處。

2. 用作形容詞，通常只用作定語(yǔ)。如：one’s left hand(左手)，the right side of the street(街右邊)等。

3. 用作副詞，注意其前不用介詞或冠詞。比較：

Turn left at the corner. /Turn to the left at the corner. 在拐角處向左拐。

◆less n.，adj. & adv.

1. 用作名詞或形容詞，作為 little 的比較級(jí)，通常與不可數(shù)名詞連用。如：

Less noise, please. 請(qǐng)不要大聲吵鬧。

He has less money than you. 他不如你有錢(qián)。

注：口語(yǔ)中有時(shí)可用于可數(shù)名詞前，但不少語(yǔ)法學(xué)家反對(duì)這一用法，建議學(xué)生不要仿用。

2. 用作副詞，可修飾形容詞或副詞，表示程度；也可修飾動(dòng)詞，表示次數(shù)、程度或數(shù)量。如：

This is less important. 這個(gè)不那么重要。

My head aches less now. 我的頭不那么痛了。

Eat less, drink less, and sleep more. 少吃，少飲酒，多睡覺(jué)。

I hope the next train will be less crowded than this one. 我希望下一趟火車(chē)不象這一趟這樣擁擠。

3. 比較 less than & less……than：前者表示“不到”、“不足”；后者表示“不象(如)……”、“與其……不如……”。如：

It’s less than a mile to the ocean. 去大海不到一英里。

He is less honest than his brother. 他不如他哥哥誠(chéng)實(shí)。

I regard him less as my teacher than as my friend. 與其說(shuō)我把他當(dāng)作老師，不如說(shuō)我是把他當(dāng)作朋友。
