1. 表示“對……的需要”，可用介詞 of 或 for。如：

There is no need for [of] help. 不需要幫助。

We have no need of money (doctors). 我們不需要錢(醫生)。

We feel the need of [for] better education. 我們感到有必要接受更好的教育。

There is a growing need for new housing in this area. 這一地區對新房的需求在不斷增長。

注：There’s no (some) need for [of]……結構中，用介詞 for比用 of 常見；在 have (no) need of [for]……結構中，用介詞 of比用 for 常見。

2. 表示做某事的必要，其后一般接不定式，有時也接“of＋動名詞”。如：

We have no need to be afraid of them. 我們沒必要他們。

There’s no need of hurrying [to hurry]. 沒必要匆匆忙忙。

I feel a need to talk to you about it. 我覺得有必要和你談談那件事。

3. 用于 in need of, 意為“需要”，可看作復合介詞，注意中間不用限定詞。如：

他們急需英語教師。

正：They are in great need of English teachers.

正：They are badly in need of English teachers.

誤：They are badly in the need of English teachers.

比較：in need(窮困，家境困難)。如：

Most of the people are in great need. 大多數人還很困難。

◆never adv.

1. 根據不同語境，可與不同時態連用：與一般現在時或一般過去時連用，表示現在或過去的一般性情況；與現在完成連用，表示“至今從未”；與一般將來時連用，表示“今后永不”。如：

He never gets up early in the morning. 他從不早起。

I never had a chance to meet him. 我始終沒機會與他見面。

I’ve never met him and I hope I never will meet him. 我從未見過他，并希望永遠不要見到他。

2. 在句中的位置通常為：放在行為動詞之前，特殊動詞(動詞be、情態動詞、助動詞）之后；若句中不止一個特殊動詞，則應放在第一個特殊動詞之后。這只是一般規則，有時可能有例外：

(1) 為加強語氣，never 也可放在特殊動詞之前。如：

He said he would never tell them, and he never has toldthem. 他說他永遠不會告訴他們，他也的確從未告訴他們。

(2) 如果特殊動詞單獨使用，never 應置于其前。如：

A：Have you ever been to Paris? 你去過巴黎嗎?

B：No, I never have. 從未去過。

3. 屬含有否定意義的副詞，若用于陳述句句首，句子要用倒裝語序。如：

Never has he read the book before. 他以前從未讀過此書。

以上兩句若將 never 置于句中，則不需倒裝：

He has never read the book before.

注：有時 never 用于祈使句句首。如：

Never come to school late. 上學千萬不要遲到。
