7. The hotel is far more luxurious than is necessary. 這個從句中沒有省略。從句的謂語動詞句型為SVP。Than在從句中作主語。（than=compared with the degree of luxury which, 既表示比較概念，同時又在從句中表語。）

8. He drove faster than was wise. 這個從句中省略了it和to drive。還原后得到下句：

8a. He drove faster than it was wise to drive. 從句謂語動詞為SVP句型，than為關(guān)系副詞，在從句中作不定式的方式狀語。（than=compared with the speed at which， 既表示比較概念，同時又在從句中作不定式的狀語。）

通過以上分析可以看出，只要理解了than是個關(guān)系詞（關(guān)系代詞或關(guān)系副詞），必須在從句中充當(dāng)一個句子成分，再結(jié)合從句的省略、替代，我們就可以還原一個結(jié)構(gòu)完整的than從句，雖然在實際中這種結(jié)構(gòu)完整的than從句遠(yuǎn)不如省略成分的than從句常見。

下面我們再分析幾個實例。

9. This meat is better than what we had last week. 還原省略了的was:

9a. This meat is better than what we had was last week.

    從句結(jié)構(gòu)為SVP。Than為表語。

    從句無省略，句型為SVO。Than在從句中作賓語。

    從句結(jié)構(gòu)為SVP，than在從句中作表語。

12. He is bigger than the boy we saw yesterday. 還原was后為：

12a. He is bigger than the boy we saw yesterday was.

    從句結(jié)構(gòu)為SVP，than在從句中作表語。

13. Mars is farther from the earth than the moon is. 還原省略后為：

13a. Mars is father from the earth than the moon is from the earth.

    從句結(jié)構(gòu)為AVP，than在從句作表語。

14. Mary has known Peter better than she has John. 還原省略后為：

14a. Mary has known Peter better than she has known John.

    從句結(jié)構(gòu)為AVOA，than在從句作狀語。

15. Jane would do it much more quickly than I would. 還原省略后為：

15a. Jane would do it much more quickly than I would do it.

    從句結(jié)構(gòu)為SVOA，than在從句作狀語。
