7. call 必要，理由；愿望，沖動

表示“做某事的必要（需要）”，其后通常接不定式。如：

There is no call to be anxious. 沒有焦急的必要。

You have no call to do that. 你沒有必要那樣做。

Many young people are feeling the call to do charity work. 許多年輕人都對從事慈善事業(yè)有著強(qiáng)烈的愿望。

8. courage 勇氣

表示“做某事的勇氣”，其后通常接不定式。如：

He lacks the courage to speak the truth. 他缺乏說實(shí)話的勇氣。

She was trying to summon up the courage to leave him. 當(dāng)時她試圖鼓足勇氣離開他。

注意courage后接不定式時，其前有時有定冠詞，有時沒有，比如在have the courage to do sth（有勇氣做某事）中通常要用定冠詞，在take [gain, gather] courage to do sth（鼓起勇氣做某事）中通常沒有定冠詞，而在find (the) courage to do sth（鼓起勇氣做某事）中的定冠詞可以用也可以省略。如：

She didn’t have the courage to tell him the truth. 她沒有勇氣告訴他實(shí)情。

It takes courage to speak out against the tide of opinion. 跟輿論唱反調(diào)需要勇氣。

有時courage后接in doing sth，表示“做某事時（表現(xiàn)出來的）勇氣”。如：

She has shown immense courage in opposing a corrupt and violent regime. 她在反對腐敗殘暴的政權(quán)時表現(xiàn)出了大無畏的精神。

注意，下面一句中courage后的不定式不是定語，而是句子主語：

It may require courage to speak freely. 要有勇氣才能直言不諱。

9. confidence 信心

表示“做某事的信心”，其后通常接不定式。如：

I had not enough confidence to go ahead. 我沒有足夠的信心干。

Good training will give a beginner the confidence to enjoy skiing. 良好的訓(xùn)練會給初學(xué)者帶來享受滑雪樂趣的自信心。

但是，相應(yīng)的形容詞confident后卻接 of doing sth而不接不定式。如：

He was confident of succeeding.=He was confident that one would succeed. 他有信心能成功。

10. conspiracy 陰謀

表示“做某事的陰謀”，其后通常接不定式。如：

This action was part of a conspiracy to deceive the public. 這次活動是欺騙公眾的一場陰謀的一部分。

Party officials have uncovered a conspiracy to discredit the prime minister. 黨內(nèi)官員揭露了敗壞首相名聲的陰謀。

The charges against them include conspiracy to smuggle heroin. 對他們的指控包括搞海洛因走私的陰謀活動。

11. campaign 戰(zhàn)役，運(yùn)動

表示“做某事的戰(zhàn)役（運(yùn)動）”，其后通常接不定式。如：

We arguably needs a campaign to promote respect for law. 我們無可爭辯地需要進(jìn)行一次遵法的運(yùn)動。

They began a campaign to get more members for the society. 他們開始了一場征收新會員的運(yùn)動。

They enlisted my support for the campaign to keep the hospital open.在為繼續(xù)開辦那家醫(yī)院而開展的活動中，他們得到了我的支持。
