33. order 命令

表示“做某事的命令”，其后通常接不定式。如：

He gave the order to start the attack. 他發出了開始進攻的命令。

Soon came the order to start the general attack. 很快下達了發起總攻的命令。

34. occasion 理由；機會

表示“做某事的理由（機會）”，其后通常接不定式。如：

You have no occasion to be angry. 你沒有理由生氣。

He had no occasion to buy a car. 他沒有必要買車。

She seized the occasion to invite him home for a short visit. 她抓住這機會邀請他到她家作簡短訪問。

35. patience 忍耐

表示“做某事的耐心”，其后通常接不定式。如：

He doesn’t have the patience to wait. 他沒有耐心等待。

She hasn’t the patience to do embroidery. 她沒有做刺繡的常性。

有時后接in doing sth，表示“做某事時的耐心”。

36. plot 陰謀

表示“做某事的陰謀”，其后通常接不定式。如：

They formed a plot to rob a bank. 他們密謀搶劫一家銀行。

They hatched up a plot to overthrow the government. 他們策劃推翻政府。

The Secret Service smelled out a plot to kill the President. 情報部門抽絲剝繭發現了要行刺總統的陰謀。

37. permission 允許

表示“做某事的允許”，其后通常接不定式。如：

We have her permission to use her car. 她允許我們用她的車。

She asked for permission to leave work early. 她請求批準她提前下班。

The bookstore has written permission to return unsold textbooks to the publishers. 書店持有書面許可，可以把未出售的教材退還給出版商。

38. permit 許可證

表示“做某事的許可（證）”，其后通常接不定式。如：

Have you a permit to fish in this lake? 你有在這座湖里垂釣的許可證嗎?

The airplane does not currently have a permit to carry livestock. 飛機目前還沒有運載牲畜的許可證。

39. power 權力

表示“做某事的權力”“有權做某事”，其后通常接不定式。如：

As a manager, she has the power to hire and fire employees. 作為經理，她有權聘用和解雇雇員。

The Constitution invests Congress with the power to make laws. 憲法賦予國會立法權。

40. promise 允諾，承諾

表示“做某事的允諾（承諾）”，其后通常接不定式。如：

Don’t forget your promise to write to me every week. 不要忘記每周給我寫信的承諾。

She made a promise to repay the loan in a week. 她保證一個星期內償還貸款。

He went back on his promise to tell nobody about this.  他答應這件事對誰也不講，可是他食言了。
