◆appreciate v.

1. 表示“感激”、“贊賞”等，通常為及物動詞，其后可接名(代)詞、動名詞、名詞性從句等作賓語，但不能接不定式。如：

I really appreciate a good cup of tea. 有好茶一杯，我就真樂在其中了。

We shall appreciate hearing from you again. 能再次收到你的來信，我們將十分感激。

I appreciate that you have come here so early. 感謝你來得這么早。

其后不直接跟 if 引導的從句，若語義上需要接這類從句，需借助 it。如：

I would much appreciate it if you would arrange this for

us. 如果你能替我安排這事，我將非常感激。

2. 其后只能接“事”作賓語，而不能接“人”作賓語（注：這與thank 的用法不同)。如：

正：We appreciate your help. 我們感謝你的幫助。

誤：We appreciate you for your help.

正：He thanked her for her help. 他感謝她的幫助。

誤：He thanked her help.

◆area n.

1. 表示“面積”，以下是幾種表示面積的大小的常見方式：

這個辦公室的面積為30平方米。

正：The office has an area of thirty square meters.

正：The area of the office is thirty square meters.

正：The office is thirty square meters in area.

正：The office covers an area of thirty square meters.

注：詢問“面積”大小，通常用疑問詞 what。如：

What is the area of the factory? 這個工廠面積有多大?

2. 表示“面積”常用單位是 square(平方)。如：

square meter 平方米 square foot 平方英尺

squre inch 平方英寸 square kilometer 平方公里 等

此外還有: acre 英畝 hectare 公頃 等

◆army n.

1. 表示“陸軍”、“軍隊”、“部隊”等，是一個可數的集合名詞，若用作主語，其謂語可用單數(視為整體)或復數(側重個體)。如：

The two armies fought for control of the bridge. 兩軍為占據那座橋而戰。

The army was [were] wiped out. 這支軍隊被消滅了。

2. 注意以下表示“參軍”、“在部隊”、“退伍”等的表達：

He joined the army when he was 16. 他16歲參軍。

Both my sons are in the army. 我的兩個兒子都在參軍。

Three years later he left the army. 三年后他退伍了。
