      5.2.4 “It+v+(to) +名詞+ that從句 

      1. THE “SEEM” GROUP

      These verbs are concerned with what a situation seems like to someone. They are also found without the prepositional phrase, in the pattern It+v+ that從句. Of the verbs in this meaning group, seem occurs much more frequently than any of the other verbs.

      (1) He said it appeared that between 1,000 and 1,500 homes had been damaged or destroyed in the state.

      (2) "It appeared to me that Ms. Mason seemed to feel that her opinion was the only solution to the case," Keeshan said.

      (3) Almost all the time it feels that the worst hasn’t yet happened.

      (4) It felt to me that genuine change was possible, that if we were faithful and passionate enough we could truly make a difference.

      5.2.5  “It+動詞+名詞+ that從句that有時省略。

      1. THE “BE” GROUP

      These verbs are concerned with what a situation is, seems, or becomes. All the verbs in this group are link verbs. The word that is often omitted.

      (2) It became a rule that visitors could not leave their cars.

      (3) It remains a subject of fascination that one family produced three exceptional writer: Charlotte, Anne, And Emily Bronte.

      2. THE “ANNY” AND “PLEASE” GROUP

      These verbs indicate how a situation makes someone feel. The noun group always indicates a human being.

      This is a productive use and occurs occasionally with a large number of verbs indicating the emotional effect of something, such as alarm, anger, awe, baffle, bemuse, confuse, depress, enrage, fascinate, frustrate, horrify, intrigue, offend, stagger, and upset. The verbs listed here are the ones which most frequently used in this way.

      (1) It amazed me that something that big could move so silently.

      (2) It amused me that after being told I should be on a diet, now they were begging me to eat.

      (3) It annoyed me that you called me authoritarian and headstrong, but I immediately realized that the idea came from the commissioner.

      (4) It’s always appalled me that priests would get special treatment, that they would be moved around.

      (5) First of all, it astonished me that I had to make a parking reservation for a job interview.

      (6) I guess it bothered me that Bouton liked him when I was so afraid of him.

      (7) It concerns me that there isn’t more reaction to it.
