      4. THE’AWFUL’ GROUP  

      These adjectives indicate that the event or situation indicated by the that-clause is a bad or undesirable one. 例如:

      (1) absurd荒謬的;荒唐的;不合理的

      I think it’s absurd that Mr. Hernandez wants to blame the United States for its addiction to drugs and to say that Mexico is complaining about it.

      (2) annoying令人生氣的;令人厭煩的

      It was annoying that she’d expect me to leave my friends for no reason other than that she wanted me to.

      (3) appalling令人震驚的;使人驚駭的;極為惡劣的

      In fact, I think it is appalling that anyone would suggest that a family would try to commercialize or capitalize off of their tragedy.

      (4) awful使人不愉快的;令人震驚的;可怕的;極壞的

      It was awful that you couldn’t change things about yourself by an act of will.

      (5) awkward使人尷尬的;難處理的;棘手的

      Wouldn’t it seem awkward that was her first response -to have an unattached male in the house?

      (6) bad不明智的;錯誤的;不對的

      It is bad that so much bias should be shewn, but it is, I suppose, inevitable.

      (7) confusing令人困惑的;費解的;混亂的

      It was confusing to me that she did this, as she didn’t seem the type who needed reassurance of her intelligence.

      (8) crazy不理智的;愚蠢的;古怪的

      It’s just crazy that he thought he could get away with it.

      (9) criminal犯罪的;犯法的

      (10) daft愚蠢的;不切實際的;古里古怪的
