句意:他出錢聘請一名建筑師為他設(shè)計了一幢房子并把房子以遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)低于預(yù)算價格造好(在那價格不斷下降的歲月里這不算難以辦到的舉動),因而能造一個游泳池。
誤用:In twenties and thirties, my grandfather had a sawmill on his farm.
改為:In the twenties and thirties, my grandfather had a sawmill on his farm.
說明:逢整“十”的基數(shù)詞用于復(fù)數(shù)形式可以表示某人的大約年歲和世紀(jì)中的年代,注意此時要在數(shù)詞前用定冠詞。又如:The war broke out in the nineties. 這次戰(zhàn)爭爆發(fā)于90年代。Karl Mark began to learn the Russian language in his fiftieth. 馬克思五十多歲開始學(xué)俄語。
句意:在20和30年代,我祖父家的農(nóng)場里建有一間鋸木廠。
