15. pleasure 快樂

用于the pleasure of doing sth，其意為“做某事的快樂”。如：

She had the pleasure of seeing him look surprised. 看他好像吃了一驚，她感到開心。

There’s nothing to compare with the pleasure of being with you. 跟你在一起是無比的愉快。

注意以下幾點(diǎn)：

(1) 下面句子中pleasure后接的不定式是主語，不是定語：

It’s a pleasure to be with you. 跟你在一起是愉快的。

It gives me great pleasure to welcome our speaker. 我很高興去迎接我們的演講人。

(2) 下面句子中pleasure后接的不定式是賓語補(bǔ)足語，不是定語：

Don’t allow pleasure to interfere with duty. 不要讓娛樂妨礙了職責(zé)。

(3) 下面句子中的pleasure雖然也在其后接了不定式，但它不表示“快樂”“開心”，而是表示“快樂的事”“開心的事”（已由抽象名詞轉(zhuǎn)化為個體名詞，可數(shù)），其中的不定式是狀語，不是定語（注意這類句式的特點(diǎn)：句子主語是其后不定式的邏輯賓語）：

Carol was a pleasure to work with. 與卡羅共事是一件開心的事。

The car is beautifully engineered and a pleasure to drive. 這輛汽車設(shè)計完美、工藝精良，開起來過癮。

16. possibility 可能（性）

用于the possibility of doing sth，其意為“做某事或發(fā)生某情況的可能性”。如：

What is the possibility of having a sunny weekend? 周末天晴的可能性有多大? 

Joe is excited about the possibility of going to the States. 喬對于有可能去美國感到興奮。

The possibility of breaking the world record never occurred to him. 他從來沒想到有可能打破世界記錄。

有時動名詞前可能有邏輯主語。如：

I admit the possibility of your being right. 我承認(rèn)你可能是對的。

比較同義句(www.hz123456.com)：

There is a possibility of his coming late.=There is a possibility that he may come late. 他有可能遲到。

There’s a possibility of my going to Denmark next year.=I may go to Denmark next year. 明年我有可能去丹麥。

17. pretence 假裝，借口

用于the pretence of doing sth，表示“假裝或借口做某事”。如：

Welland made a pretence of writing a note in his pad. 韋蘭假裝在便箋簿上做筆記。

By the end of the evening she had abandoned all pretence of being interested. 到晚會結(jié)束時，她已將假裝的興趣拋得一干二凈。

用于under the pretence of doing sth，表示“以做某事為借口”。如：

He tried to get close to her under the pretence of examining the pictures on the wall. 他借口仔細(xì)看墻上的畫，試圖接近她。
