◆blind，deaf & lame adj.

1. 用于本義：blind 意為“瞎的”，deaf 意為“聾的”，lame

意為“瘸的”，它們在用法上應注意：

(1) 通常不以相關部位(如 eye, ear, foot 等)作主語，而通常以“人”作主語(其后通常接介詞 in)。如：

He is blind in both eyes. 他雙目失明。

He is deaf in one ear. 他一只耳朵聾了。

The horse is lame in the left foot. 這匹馬左腳是跛的。

有時用介詞 of, 但較少見：He is deaf of one ear.

注意不能說：His eyes are blind. /His ears are deaf. /His

legs are lame.

(2) 表示“變瞎”、“變聾”、“變瘸”等，通常用連系動詞 go,

become 等。如：

The old man has gone blind (deaf, lame). 這位老人眼睛變瞎(耳朵變聾，腳變瘸)了。

(3) 三者都可與定冠詞連用，表示“瞎子”、“聾子”、“瘸子”等這一類人。若用作主語，謂語通常用復數。如：(www.hz123456.com)

He set up a school for the blind (the deaf, the lame). 他為盲人(耳聾者，腳瘸者)創辦了一所學校。

Now the blind have books to read. 現在盲人也有書讀。

(4) 形容一個很瞎，通常說他 as blind as a bat；形容一個人很聾，通常說他 as deaf as a post [stone, door-post, door-nail]。有時也有其它一些副詞修飾。如：very [stone] deaf 很聾

2. 用于引申義，表示“對……視而不見或看不到”、“對……不肯聽或充耳不聞”等，其后一般用介詞 to。如：

He was blind to all arguments. 和他有理講不通。

He was deaf to all advice. 他聽不進任何勸告。

The boss sometimes turns a blind eye to smoking in theoffice. 老板有時對在辦公室抽煙視而不見。

She turned a deaf ear to our warnings and got lost. 她對我們的警告充耳不聞，結果迷了路。

◆blow v. & n.

用作動詞，表示“吹”；而用作名詞，卻表示“打擊”。如：

The wind blew on her face. 風迎面吹來。

He gave me a blow in the eye. 他沖著我的眼睛打了一拳。

It was a great blow to her when her mother died. 她母親去世對她是個極大的打擊。

注意：不要弄混用作動詞和名詞時的不同含義。如：

他給我重重地一擊。

正：He struck me heavily.

正：He gave me a heavy blow.

誤：He blew me heavily.

◆body n.

1. 表示“身體”，但并不與漢語的“身體”完全同義：

(1) 相對于精神(mind, spirit, soul)的“身體”以及側重指軀體的“身體”等，可用 body 來表示。如：

You can imprison my body but not my mind. 你可以禁錮我的身體但不能禁錮我的精神。

His body is old but his mind is young. 他身體雖然老了，但心還很年輕。

(2) 側重指軀體、軀干等的“身體”，也可用 body 表示。如：

He wore clothes to keep his body warm. 他穿衣服以暖和身子。

He was badly burned on the face and body. 他的臉部和身上都嚴重燒傷。

(3) 表示健康狀況的“身體”，一般不能直接用 body, 可改用其它說法(如用 health, healthy 等)。如：

He is in good health. / He is healthy. 他身體健康。

Keep healthy, study well and work well. 身體好，學習好，工作好。

2. 表示“尸體”。如：

The police found a body at the bottom of the lake. 警方在湖底發現一具尸體。
