◆truth n.

1. 與動詞 tell, speak, say 等連用，表示說實話。如：

I don’t think he has told the truth. 我認為他沒說真話。

You must always tell [speak, say] the truth. 你要永遠講實話。

2. 用于 to tell (you) the truth, 意為“說實話”，用作插入語。如：

To tell (you) the truth, I don’t like it. 說實話，我并不喜歡它。

注：有時也說 truth to tell, 但不是很常見。

◆try v.

其后接不定式或動名詞均可，但含義有差別：后接不定式表示設法或盡力去做某事；后接動名詞表示試著做某事看是否會有什么結果或效果。如：

He tried to read, but he was too tired to read much. 他設法想看書，但太疲倦了沒看多少。

He tried reading, but that could not make him forget his trouble. 他試著看書，但這并沒使他忘記他的煩惱。

注：口語中“try＋不定式”通常可用“try and＋動詞”代之。但要注意，此時 try 通常只能用原形，不用 tries, tried, trying等形式。如：

　正：Try and (=to) do it well. 設法把它做好。

正：I’ll try and (=to) do it well. 我會想法把它做好。

誤：He tries and does it well. (www.hz123456.com)

誤：He is trying and doing it well.

◆turn v.

1. 用作連系動詞，表示“變成”、“成為”等，其后通常接形容詞作表語。如：

Leaves turn brown in autumn. 秋天樹葉變黃。

The weather has burned cold and windy. 天氣變得寒冷而且多風。

2. 有時后接名詞作表語，該名詞一般為單數且其前不用冠詞，多用來指沒有預料到或并非人們所希望的變化。如：

He turned traitor. 他成了叛徒。

He was a medical student before he turned writer. 他在成為作家之前是學醫的學生。

3. 比較 by turns & in turn：前者表示“輪流”、“交替”； 后者表示“依次”。如：

We did the work by turns. 我們輪流做這項工作。

We will cross the bridge in turn. 我們將依次過橋。
