1. 泛指一般意義的“危險(xiǎn)”，通常是不可數(shù)名詞。表示做某事的危險(xiǎn)或發(fā)生某情況的危險(xiǎn)等，通常后接of (doing) sth, 而不接不定式。如：

Is there any danger of fire (infection)? 有發(fā)生火災(zāi)的(感染)的危險(xiǎn)嗎?

The children didn’t realize the danger of swimming in the river. 孩子們沒有意識(shí)到在這河里游泳的危險(xiǎn)。

注意通常不說……the danger to swim in the river.

比較以下后接 in doing sth 的句型：

Is there any danger in climbing the tree? 爬這樹有危險(xiǎn)嗎?

用于短語 in danger (of)，意為“在危險(xiǎn)中”。如：

His life is in danger. 他有生命危險(xiǎn)。

◆dangerous adj.

1. 表示“危險(xiǎn)的”，指本身對(duì)他人或他物有危險(xiǎn)。如：

The dog looks dangerous. 這狗看來有(咬人的)危險(xiǎn)。

It’s a dangerous bridge. 那是座危險(xiǎn)的橋。

比較：

The man is dangerous. 這人很危險(xiǎn)。(即對(duì)他人造成危險(xiǎn))

The man is in danger. 這人有危險(xiǎn)。(即自己處于危險(xiǎn)中)

2. 可用于 It’s dangerous for sb to do sth, 但不用于 Sb is dangerous to do sth 或后接 that 從句。如：

人們?cè)谶@條河里游泳很危險(xiǎn)。

誤：It’s dangerous that people swim in the river.

誤：People are dangerous to swim in the river.

正：It’s dangerous for people to swim in the river.

比較：The river is dangerous to swim in. (正)

The river is dangerous for swimmers. (正)

◆dare v.

1. 用作情態(tài)動(dòng)詞，主要用于否定句、疑問句或條件從句中。如：

Dare you ask him? 你敢問他嗎?

They dared not come. 他們不敢來了。

If you dare speak to me like that again, you will be sorry. 你敢再這樣對(duì)我說，你會(huì)后悔的。

注：I dare say 是習(xí)慣說法，并不一定要譯為“我敢說”。它所表示的是一種不肯定的語氣，常譯為“很可能”、“大概”、“我想”等。有時(shí)用作反語。如：

I dare say (that) you are right. 我想你是對(duì)的。

Oh, you mean to win? I dare say you will. 啊，你想打贏?

我且看你贏吧。

作為情態(tài)動(dòng)詞，dare 沒有單數(shù)第三人稱形式，但有過去式。如： No one dared speak of it. 沒有人敢談及此事。

但是盡管有過去式，人們還是常用現(xiàn)在式表示過去或后接完成式動(dòng)詞。如：

Mother dare(d) not tell father she’d given away his old jacket. 母親不敢告訴父親她把他的舊上衣送人了。

I didn’t like their new house though I daren’t have saidso. 我不喜歡他們的新房子，雖然我沒敢這樣說過。
