1. 表示“講授”、“指導”等，是不可數名詞；表示在某一方面的講授或指導，用介詞 in。如：

He gives instruction in English. 他教授英語。

表示在某人的指導下或接受指導，用介詞 under。如：

We work under Mr Smith’s instruction. 我們在史密斯先生的指導下工作。

2. 表示“命令”、“指示”等，是可數名詞，但多用復數形式。如：

Since it is an instruction, I will carry it out. 既然是命令，我遵照執行。

注：表示做某事的指示或命令，后接不定式或 that 從句。如：

He gave us instructions to finish the work as soon aspossible. 他指示我們盡快完成工作。

We received instructions that we (shall, should) arrest him. 我們接到了逮捕他的命令。

表示按照某人的指示或奉某人的命令，通常用介詞 on。如：

I did it on his instructions. 我是奉他的指示做此事的。

3. 表示“說明”、“須知”等，通常只用復數形式。如：

1. 用作名詞，注意以下用法:

(1) 表示一般意義的“興趣”、“愛好”，為不可數名詞，但可與不定冠詞連用。如：

He doesn’t show much interest in sports. 他對運動沒什么興趣。

He seems to have (an) interest in music. 他似乎對音樂有興趣。

注：有時可用復數形式，表示多種興趣。如：

(2) 表示具體意義的“感興趣的事”、“愛好”，是可數名詞。如：

Tennis is one of his main interests. 打網球是他的主要愛好之一。

His two great interests in life are music and painting. 他人生的兩大愛好是音樂和繪畫。

(3) 注意以下各句介詞 of 的使用：

The question is of great interest to me. 我對這個問題很感興趣。

He has been to many places of interest. 他去過許多名勝。

2. 用作動詞，是及物動詞，通常以人作賓語。如：

The film interested us all. 這部電影使我們大家都感興趣。

注：不管用作動詞還是名詞，表示在某一方面的興趣，均有介詞in。如：

He tried to interest me in football. 他設法使我對足球感興趣。

His interest in languages has become deeper than ever. 他對語言的興趣比以往更濃了。

◆interested & interesting adj.

1. interesting 表示使人感興趣，interested 表示某人自己本身感興趣。如：

The story is very interesting, so all the children areinterested in it. 這個故事很有趣，所以所有的孩子都對它感興趣。

2. 不要認為 interesting 一定指物，interested 一定指人。如：

The man is very interesting. 這個人很有趣。

I read an interested expression on his face. 我看到他臉上露出一種感興趣的表情。

3. be interested 之后可接 in doing sth 或 to do sth, 含義稍有差別：接前者意為“對做某事感興趣”，接后者意為“有興趣地做某事”。如：

He is interested in becoming a painter. 他對當畫家很感興趣(即一心想當畫家)。

We are interested to hear your remark. 我們很有興趣聽聽你的意見。

◆introduce v.

1. 表示“介紹”，通常是及物動詞，注意不帶雙賓語。如：

讓我把我的朋友介紹給你。

正：Let me introduce my friend to you.

誤：Let me introduce you my friend.

漢語中說“作自我介紹”，英語用 introduce oneself。如：

Let me introduce myself: my name is (John) Smith. 請讓我自我介紹一下：我名叫(約翰·)史密斯。

2. 表示“使認識”、“使了解”等，通常用于 introduce sb tosth 這一結構。如：

The teacher introduced the students to the pleasure ofreading. 老師讓學生們嘗到了讀書的樂趣。

He introduced us to a new method of work. 他使我們了解了(介紹了)一種了新的工作方法。

比較：introduce sb to sb(把一人介紹給另一人)。如：

The chairman introduced the lecturer to the audience. 主席把演講者介紹給聽眾。

3. 表示“引進”、“引入”、“采用”等，通常與介詞 into 等連用。如：

4. 有時漢語說“介紹”，其實是指“推薦”，此時不用introduce, 而用 recommend。如：

誤：Can you introduce (me) a good dictionary?

正：Can you recommend (me) a good dictionary?
