3. 用作名詞，表示主動給予或提供某物，其后通常接 of 短語或不定式。如：

Thank you for your offer of help [to help]. 謝謝你愿意提供幫助。

He promised to make an offer of support (food). 他答應愿給予支持(食物)。

用作名詞，也可表示“出價”。如：

He made me an offer of 300 dollars. 他向我開價300美元。

I’ve had an offer of $2000 for the piano. 有人已出兩千美元買這部鋼琴。

◆office n.

1. 表示“辦公室”、“辦公機構”。若表示去辦公室上班，其前通常要用冠詞，雖然有時也省去，但很少見。如：

I don’t have to go to the office on Sundays. 星期日我不必去辦公室上班。

You didn’t go to (the) office today? 你今天沒去辦公?

2. 表示“公職”、“職務”、“職責”等，通常為可數名詞。如：

He has a very high office in the Government. 他在政府里擔任很高的職務。

Many offices in France could be bought. 在法國有許多職務可以用錢買到。

注：在某些短語中，可是不可數的。如：in office(執政，當權)，out of office(不執政，不當權)，take office(就職，上任)，come

into office(上任，就職)，leave office(離職)等。

◆often adv.

1. 表示“經常”，通常放在行為動詞之前，特殊動詞(助動詞、情態動詞以及動詞 be)之后。如：

He was often late for class. 他上課經常遲到。

He often goes out with her. 他經常同她一起出去。

The boys have often been there. 孩子們經常去那兒。

有時為了強調，也可放在特殊動詞之前，甚至句首或句末。如：

He was often ill. /He often was ill. 他經常生病。

He often writes to me. /He writes to me often. 他經常給我寫信。

若受副詞修飾(加強語氣或強調)，也通常位于句末或句首。如：

We go to the cinema quite [very] often. / Very [Quite]

often we go to the cinema. 我們經常去看電影。

2. 用于 as often as, 起連詞作用，相當于whenever, 意為“每當”。如：

As often as I tried to ring him, the line was engaged. 每次我給他打電話都占線。

◆once adv. & conj.

1. 用作副詞，表示“一次”，是頻度狀語，通常放在句末；表示“曾經”、“一度”，是表示不確定時間的副詞，通常放在行為動詞之前，特殊動詞(助動詞、情態動詞、動詞 be)之后，有時也可放在句首。如：

I’ll help you once but then you must do it by yourself. 我只幫你一次，但以后你就得自己做了。

This novel was once very popular but nobody reads it today. 這本小說曾經很受歡迎，但現在沒有人讀了。

注：表示“一次”的 once 還經常與 a, every 等連用。如：

We have a meeting once a week. 我們每周開會一次。

He goes home once every six months. 他每半年回家一次。

2. 用作連詞，引導時間狀語從句，注意從句要用現在時表示將來意義。如：

Once you begin, you must continue. 你一旦開始，就必須進行下去。

Once you talk to him, you’ll know he’s a good person. 你只要同他談談，你就會知道他是個好人。

所引導從句的主語若與主句主語一致，有時也可用其省略結構，被省略部分通常(并不總是)包括有動詞 be。如：

Once (it is) printed, the book will be very popular. 一旦出版，這本書會大受歡迎。

Once having made a promise, you should keep it. 你一旦許下諾言，就該遵守。

3. 比較 at once 與 all at once: 前者表示“馬上”或“同時”；后者表示“突然”。如：

Come here at once. 馬上過來。

Don’t all speak at once. 不要一起說。

All at once we heard a loud noise. 突然我們聽到一聲巨響。
