3. 表示“招待(顧客)”、“侍候(吃飯)”、“端(菜)”等，是及物動詞。如：

Dinner is now served. 現在開飯了。

Serve the guests first. 先給客人盛飯(菜)。

比較以下同義句型：

她給客人們上了飯菜和飲品。

正：She served the guests (with) food and drink.

正：She served food and drink to the guests.

注：第一句中的 with 省略，即為雙賓語句型，若雙賓語易位，用介詞 to, 如上面的第二句。

4. 用于 serve as, 意為“充當……”、“起……作用”。如：

Let those who can serve as teachers. 能者為師。

It serves as a lesson to him. 這對他來說是一個教訓。

有時也用 serve for。如：

This room can serve as [for] a study. 這房間可用作書房。

1. 表示具體意義的“服務”、“幫忙”等，通常是可數名詞，且多用復數形式。如：

但若表示抽象意義的“服務”，則為不可數名詞。如：

Service First. 服務第一。

We must try to improve our service. 我們必須設法提高服務質量。

另外，表示“服務”或“幫忙”，還需注意以下結構：

(1) be of service 有幫助。如：

Can I be of any service to you? 我能幫上你的忙嗎?
