He is such a good teacher as we all respect. 他是一位我們大家都尊敬的好老師。(as引導的是定語從句，as 在該定語從句用作 respect 的賓語)

He is such a good teacher that we all respect him. 他是那樣一位好老師，以致于我們大家都尊敬他。(that 引導的是結果狀語從句，that 在該狀語從句中不充當句子成分，另外注意句中的 respect 帶有賓語 him)

◆suffer v.

1. 用作不及物動詞，表示“遭受痛苦(疼痛，苦難等)”。如：

The patient is still suffering. 病人仍很痛苦。

He suffered terribly when his mother died. 他母親去世時，他很悲痛。

2. 用作及物動詞，表示“遭受(痛苦、苦難等)”。如：

Fortunately he suffered no pain. 幸好他不感到痛。

Britain had suffered a defeat. 英國吃了次敗戰。

The car suffered great damage in the accident. 汽車在事故中損壞嚴重。

3. 用于 suffer from, 表示“受……之苦”或“患……病”。如：

Trade is suffering from war. 貿易由于戰爭而受到損失。

Perhaps you suffer from overwork. 也許你是工作過度了。

Do you suffer from headaches? 你經常頭痛嗎?

注：表示“遭受(痛苦)”，用 suffer(及物)與用 suffer from 略有差別：前者指遭受痛苦，多半直接以表示“痛苦”的名詞作其賓語；后者指“受……之苦”或“因……而感到不舒服或受到損害”，其后多半是接能導致痛苦或不幸的東西(見以上例句)。但是若表示“患……病”，一般要用 suffer from。

另外，有時不是用介詞 from 而是用介詞 for, with。如：

He suffers terribly with his feet. 他的腳痛得不得了。

The piano suffers for want of use. 這部鋼琴因使用太少而在損壞。

4. 不要受漢語習慣的影響使用下面這樣的被動句:

誤：He was suffered from a bad cold.

誤：He was suffered great pain.

◆suggest v.

1. 用作動詞，表示“建議”、“提議”，其后接動詞時要用動名詞(而不能用不定式)；若是后接從句，多用虛擬語氣(should＋v. )。但是注意，不要按漢語習慣在其后接不定式的復合結構。如：

He suggested taking the children to the zoo. 他提議帶孩子去動物園。

He suggested that we (should) come another day. 他建議們改日再來。

他建議我們買臺電腦。

正：He suggested our buying a computer.

正：He suggested that we (should) buy a computer.

誤：He suggested us to buy a computer.

注：在現代英語中 suggest表示“建議”時，其后所接的從句也可不用“should＋v. ”的虛擬語氣形式，但不算很普通，初學者最好不要仿用。如：

I suggest that you don’t go. 我建議你不要去。

2. 表示“暗示”、“表明”、“指出”、“提出(看法)”等義，若后接that-從句，通常用陳述語氣。如：

His smile suggested that he was satisfied. 他的微笑表明他是滿意的。

I’m not suggesting that the accident was your fault. 我并不是說這個事故是你的錯。

Others suggest that they two will be equals. 其他人認為他們倆將是勢均力敵。

3. 不能接雙賓語，若含義上需要接雙賓語，可用介詞 to。如：

What did you suggest to the manager? 你向經理提了什么建議?

He suggested to us that we should go by train. 他向我們提議坐火車去。

比較以下用介詞 for, as 的例子：

Whom would suggest for the job? 你建議由誰來做這工作?

I suggest Paris as a good place for honeymoon. 我建議去巴黎，那是個度蜜月的好地方。
