◆water n.

1. 表示“水”，是物質名詞，不可數，且其前一般不用冠詞；但是特指，或指水面或水里等，則通常用定冠詞。如：

The prisoners were given only bread and water. 只給囚犯面包和水。

The water in this pool is poisonous. 這個池塘的水有毒。

We could see fishes under the water. 我們看到水面下有各種魚。

2. 表示“水”，作為物質名詞，通常是不可數的，不能有復數形式；但它有時表示“大片的水”、“海(河，湖等)水”、“海域”、“礦泉水”等，卻通常用復數形式。如：

Here the river pours its waters into the sea. 這條河在這里注入大海。

The waters of the lake flow out over a large waterfall. 這個湖的水流出后形成一個很大的瀑布。

◆way n.

表示“方式”、“方法”，注意以下用法：

1. 表示用某種方法或按某種方式，通常用介詞 in(此介詞有時可省略)。如：

Do it (in) your own way. 按你自己的方法做吧。

Please do not talk (in) that way. 請不要那樣說。

2. 表示做某事的方式或方法，其后可接不定式或 of doing sth。

如：

It’s the best way of studying [to study] English. 這是學習英語的最好方法。

There are different ways to do [of doing] it. 做這事有不同的辦法。

3. 其后通常可直接跟一個定語從句(不用任何引導詞)，也可跟由that 或 in which 引導的定語從句，但是其后的從句不能由 how 來引導。如：

我不喜歡他說話的態度。

正：I don’t like the way he spoke.

正：I don’t like the way that he spoke.

正：I don’t like the way in which he spoke.

誤：I don’t like the way how he spoke.

4. 注意以下各句 the way 的用法：

That’s the way (=how) he spoke. 那就是他說話的方式。

Nobody else loves you the way(=as) I do. 沒有人像我這樣愛你。

The way (=According as) you are studying now, you won’tmake much progress. 根據你現在學習情況來看，你不會有多大的進步。

◆wealth n.

表示“財富”、“金錢”，是不可數名詞。如：

He is a man of great wealth. 他是富豪。

Wealth had not brought them happiness. 他們的財富并沒有給他們帶來幸福。

◆wear v.

1. 表示“穿(衣)”，通常表示穿著的狀態。如：

She wore a red dress. 她穿著一件紅連衣裙。

He was wearing a new jacket. 他當時穿著一件新夾克。

2. wear 除可表示穿衣外，還可表示戴表(花、紀念章等)以及留頭發或胡須等。如：

He seldom wears a watch. 他很少戴表。

He wears his hair long. 他留著長發。
