◆as usual & than usual

1. as usual 意為“像平常一樣”。如：

As usual, he arrived last. 他照例是最后一個(gè)到。

He would go home, as usual, for Christmas. 他像往常一樣要回家過(guò)圣誕節(jié)。

2. than usual 意為“比平常”。如：

He came earlier than usual. 他比平常來(lái)得更早。

There’re more people here than usual. 這兒的人比往常多。

◆variety n.

1. 表示“變化”、“多樣性”，是不可數(shù)名詞。如：

We all need variety in our diet. 我們都需要飲食多樣化。

I didn’t like the work, because it lacked variety; I wasdoing the same thing all the time. 我不喜歡那工作，因?yàn)樗�缺少變化，我老是做著同樣的事情�?/SPAN>

2. 表示“種種”、“各種各樣”，是可數(shù)名詞，但通常只用單數(shù)形式，且主要用于 a variety of 這樣的結(jié)構(gòu)。如：

They were late for a variety of reasons. 他們因種種原因而遲到。

You may do it in a great variety of ways. 你可以用許多不同的方法去做這事。

注：a variety of 后通常接復(fù)數(shù)可數(shù)名詞，但有時(shí)也接不可數(shù)名詞(見(jiàn)上例)。但是注意以下結(jié)構(gòu)由于所用冠詞不同，它所表示的數(shù)的概念也不同：

“a variety of＋復(fù)數(shù)名詞”用作主語(yǔ)，謂語(yǔ)要用復(fù)數(shù)

“the variety of＋復(fù)數(shù)名詞”用作主語(yǔ)，謂語(yǔ)要用單數(shù)

A variety of books have been published. 出版了各種各樣的書(shū)。

The variety of goods in this shop is rich. 這家商店的貨物品種豐富。

比較：“a number of＋復(fù)數(shù)名詞”與“the number of＋復(fù)數(shù)名詞”用作主語(yǔ)時(shí)的差別(參見(jiàn) number)。

3. 表示“種類(lèi)”、“品種”，是可數(shù)名詞。如：

An apple is a variety of fruit. 蘋(píng)果是一種水果。

We’re going to grow a new variety of wheat this year. 今年我們要種植一種新品種的小麥。

◆various adj.

1. 表示“許多”、“多個(gè)”，通常只用作定語(yǔ)。如：

I have various letters to write. 我有好幾封信要寫(xiě)。

Various people said they had seen the accident. 許多人都說(shuō)目睹了這次事故。

2. 表示“各種各樣的”、“形形色色的”、“種種的”等，多用于名詞前作定語(yǔ)，但有時(shí)也用作表語(yǔ)。如：

For various reasons I’d prefer not to meet him. 由于種種原因我還是不見(jiàn)他為好。

His excuses are many and various. 他的理由(借口)既多又是五花八門(mén)。

◆vegetable n.

表示“蔬菜”，通常是可數(shù)名詞，但通常用復(fù)數(shù)形式。如：

她買(mǎi)了許多新鮮水果和蔬菜。

正：She bought a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables.

誤：She bought a lot of fresh fruit and vegetable.

你每天都吃蔬菜嗎?

正：Do you eat vegetables every day?

誤：Do you eat vegetable every day?

注：在口語(yǔ)中有時(shí)可表示用蔬菜做成的“一道菜”。如：

Dinner includes soup, entree, salad, and two vegetables. 正餐包括湯、主菜、沙拉、還有兩個(gè)蔬菜。
