1. 用作動詞，注意以下用法：

(1) 表示“恐懼”、“害怕”，其后接動詞時，可用不定式或動名詞(注：用不定式比用動名詞常見)。如：

He feared to speak in public. 他害怕在公共場合講話。

He fears to tell [telling] her what happened. 他怕告訴她所發生的事。

(2) 表示“恐怕”、“擔心”，其后通常接 that 從句。如：

I fear that he will refuse us. 我擔心他會拒絕我們。

在答語中 that 從句可用 so, not 代之。如：
