1. pride 是名詞(通常不可數(shù))或動詞(及物)，proud 是形容詞。表示“對……感到自豪”，以下表達大致同義：
他以會說法語而自豪。
正：He is proud of being able to speak French.
正：He takes pride in being able to speak French.
正：He prides himself on his ability to speak French.
注：用作名詞的 pride 前有時可用不定冠詞。如：
She takes (a) great pride in her son’s success. 她對她兒子的成功感到自豪。
2. 用作形容詞的 proud 可用于貶義，也可用于褒義。比較：
He’s too proud to speak to poor people like us. 他很傲慢，不屑和我們這樣的窮人說話。
He’s too proud to do such a mean thing. 他很有自尊心，不會干這種卑鄙的事情。
◆prison n.
1. 表示“監(jiān)獄”，若指建筑物本身，是可數(shù)名詞；若指被監(jiān)禁的狀態(tài)，則為不可數(shù)名詞，且不用冠詞。如：
There are two prisons in the city. 城里有兩座監(jiān)獄。
He is in prison for theft. 他因偷盜而入獄。
He was let out of prison. 他被釋放出獄。
2. 表示“關進監(jiān)獄”或“坐牢”，注意以下常用搭配:
(1) cast (put, throw) sb into prison 把某人關入監(jiān)獄
(2) send (take) sb to prison 把某人關入監(jiān)獄
(3) go to prison 坐牢
以下各句謂語用了瞬間動詞，卻連用了一段時間狀語，可理解為瞬間動詞結束后所持續(xù)的時間：
He went to prison for six years. 他坐過六年牢。
He has been sent to prison for three years. 他入獄已有三年。
◆prize n.
1. 表示“獲獎”，一般用動詞 win, gain, get, take, receive, be awarded 等。如：
He has won the history prize. 他獲得了歷史獎。
He got [gained, took] (the) first prize at the speech contest. 他在演講比賽中獲得頭獎。
2. 表示某一方面的獎，常用介詞 for。如：
She won first prize for singing. 她獲唱歌頭等獎。
She received the Nobel Prize for physics. 她獲得了諾貝爾物理獎。
◆professor n.
1. 表示某一學科的教授，一般有兩種表達(但用介詞 of的結構更常見)。如：a law professor /a professor of law(法學教授 )，
a physics professor /a professor of physics (化學教授)等
2. 表示在某校任教授，通常在校名前用介詞 at 或 in, 而不用of；但若是表示某校的某某教授(即與姓名連用)則要用介詞 of(表示所屬關系)。如：
He’s a professor of law at [in]

3. 可用作稱呼。如：(www.hz123456.com)

◆progress n.
1. 用作動詞，意為“進步”、“進展”、“前進”等，只用作不及物動詞。如：
She is progressing in her studies. 她在學業(yè)上有進步。
How are you progressing with your driving lessons? 你的駕駛課學得如何?
He managed to progress to a senior position. 他設法得到提升。
