表示“踢”，注意漢語的“踢”并一定都用 kick 來譯。比較：

He played football with his classmates. 他同他的同學(xué)踢足球。(“踢足球”是一項活動，用動詞 play)

He kicked the football out of the field. 他把足球踢出了球場。(指用腳踢球的一次動作)

◆kind adj. & n.

1. 用作形容詞，意為“仁慈的”、“善良的”、“親切的”，注意以下各句所搭配的介詞：

The teacher is kind to [towards] us. 老師對我們很好。

It’s very kind of your brother to help us. 多謝你哥哥幫了我們的忙。

比較以下同義句型：

你這樣說，真是太好了。

正：It is kind of you to say that.

正：You are kind to say that.

請你關(guān)一下門好嗎?

正：Will you be kind enough to shut the door?

2. 用作名詞，表示“種類”，在用法上注意以下幾點：

(1) 以下兩類表達(dá)基本同義，但第二種表達(dá)更正式:

正：This kind of computer is of good quality.

正：Computers of this kind are of good quality.

非洲有很多種蛇。

正：Many kinds of snakes are found in Africa.

正：Snakes of many kinds are found in Africa.

(2) kind(s) of 通常用于單數(shù)可數(shù)名詞和不可數(shù)名詞前。如：

one kind of flower (bread) 一種花(面包)

many kinds of car (bread) 許多種車(面包)

注：在非正式英語中，復(fù)數(shù)形式的 kinds of 和 sorts of 也可用于復(fù)數(shù)名詞前(較少見)，但單數(shù)形式的 kind of 和 sort of 通常不能用于復(fù)數(shù)名詞前。如：

正：these kinds [sorts] of flowers (people) 這些種花(人)

誤：this kind [sort] of flowers (people)

◆knock v. & n.

1. 用作動詞，表示“敲”，可及物或不及物。用于“敲門”之類的意義時，knock 通常為不及物動詞，后面一般接介詞 on, at。如：

Someone is knocking at [on] the door. 有人在敲門。

Please knock (at/on the door) before entering. 進(jìn)屋之前請先敲門。

用作及物動詞。如：

The car knocked the old man down. 汽車把老人撞倒。

She knocked her head on [against] the wall. 她把頭撞到了墻上。

2. 用作名詞時，其后也常接介詞 at, on。如：

There was a knockat [on] the door. 有人敲門。
