2. 表示為了某種目的，通常用 for……purposes(其中的 purpose通常用復數(shù))。如：

He keeps a horse for pleasure purposes. 他為消遣而養(yǎng)馬。

He learns Japanese for business purposes. 他學習日語是為做生意。

類似的例子有：for medical purposes(為了醫(yī)學的目的)，for

defence purposes(為了防御之目的)，for scientific purposes(為了科學的目的)，English for commercial purposes(商業(yè)英語)等。

3. 用于 on purpose, 意為“有意地”、“故意地”。如：

I came here on purpose to see you. 我是特意來看你的。

She broke the dish on purpose just to show her anger. 她故意打破碟子以表示她的憤怒。

◆quality n.

1. 表示“質(zhì)量”，是不可數(shù)名詞；表示某物質(zhì)量的好壞，以下幾句均可說，但第一句為最常見：

這種材料質(zhì)量很好。

正：This material is (of) good quality.

正：This material is good in quality.

正：The quality of this material is good.

2. 表示“品質(zhì)”、“特點”，通常為可數(shù)名詞:

She has many fine qualities. 她有很多優(yōu)良的品質(zhì)。

Courage is one of the qualities of a good soldier. 勇敢 是一個優(yōu)秀士兵的品質(zhì)之一。

注：下面是一句廣告語，不可數(shù)的 quality 指“質(zhì)量”，復數(shù)的qualities 指“性能”或“品質(zhì)”等：

The Quality Is The Same, But The Qualities Are Different. 質(zhì)量穩(wěn)定，性能更新。

◆quantity n.

1. 表示“數(shù)量”，若是指相對于質(zhì)量來說的“數(shù)量”，是不可數(shù)名詞。如：

Quality is more important than quantity, but without quantity there can be no quality. 質(zhì)量比數(shù)量更重要，但沒有數(shù)量就沒有質(zhì)量。

2. 若指具體的數(shù)量，通常為可數(shù)名詞，此時可以連用不定冠詞或用復數(shù)形式；要表示數(shù)量的多少可用 great, large, huge, small 等形容詞修飾；通常修飾不可數(shù)名詞，有時也修飾復數(shù)可數(shù)名詞。如：

They gave us a large quantity of food. 他們給了我們大量食品。

Quantities of books were on the desk. 桌上有很多很多書。

3. 注意以下各句所搭配的介詞，以及單復數(shù)的使用：

大批量購物較便宜。

正：It’s cheaper to buy goods in quantity.

正：It’s cheaper to buy goods in large quantities.

比較：

We don’t sell coal in small quantities. 小批的煤我們不賣。

◆quarrel v. & n.

可用作動詞或名詞，意為“爭吵”，注意以下有用搭配：

1. 表示與某人爭吵，用介詞 with。如：

She quarreled with her husband. /She had a quarrel with her husband. 她與她丈夫吵架了。

2. 表示為某事而爭吵，用介詞 about, over 等。如：

They often quarrel about [over] trifles. 他們經(jīng)常為小事爭吵。

The brothers had a quarrel about [over] the division of the money. 這幾兄弟為分錢的事吵了起來。
