【問題分析】ceasing to slang應改為ceasing to be slang。另外，it is already ceasing to slang的時態也有問題，建議改為一般現在時。

36. So as the usage of good society continues to proscribe it, it may called a vulgarism. (p. 232)

【問題分析】被動結構it may called應改為it may be called才完整。另外，這句話的前半句讓人莫名其妙，而且邏輯關系也不通。

37. With these as a guide a translator can gain an insight into the original story to grasp the theme, the dominant impression, the characterization, the well-designed arrangement of a series of incidents, etc., so that the true purpose of the author to create it.

【問題分析】按照英語用法，so that 后應接從句結構，但本句中so that the true purpose of the author to create it缺少謂語部分。

（八）不定代詞用法問題

英語初學者經常混淆不定代詞many與much（表示“許多”）、a few 與a little（表示“一些”）之間的區別。令人遺憾的是，這種低級錯誤在本書中也存在。如：

38. As for derivation, Chinese and English differ in two aspects: first, the former has less prefixes than the latter; secondly, it has more suffixes to denote persons than those to denote state, action, etc. (p. 88)

【問題分析】less prefixes中的prefixes是可數名詞，因此less應改為fewer。另外，本句中的代詞it還存在指代不明問題。

39. Since the thought pattern of one people differs from that of another, much adjustments should be made in translating long sentences. (p. 175)

【問題分析】much后修飾不可數名詞，因此其后的adjustments不應使用復數形式。

40. The categorical syllogism is so called because each of it statement is categorical, or absolute, with no ifs or other limitations. (p. 250)

【問題分析】each of 后接名詞復數形式，statement應改為statements。
