5.7.3連詞that引導(dǎo)結(jié)果/程度狀語從句

根據(jù)趙俊英編著的《英語副詞用法•轉(zhuǎn)換形式詞典》(山東友誼出版社 1999年10月第1版) P830和章振邦主編的《新編英語語法》(第三版) (上海譯文出版社1997年1月第3版) P1218-1224, 以下包含that的復(fù)合連詞可以引導(dǎo)結(jié)果(程度) 狀語從句。

1.so much so that 到了這種程度以至于

The forest is quiet, so much so that his breathing, the leaves crackling under his shoes, sound loud as thunderclaps.

2.so…that 【so位于句首時，主句主謂倒裝，在口語中that有時省略】這樣/如此……以至于；因而；因此

He was so angry that he left the room without saying a word.

So bright was the moon that the flowers were as by day.

So absorbed was he that she hadn’t dared to make a sound.

So great a friend is Laso, in fact, that he hasn’t let the late exiled Philippine president’s death end their relationship.

He spoke so eloquently that we were all moved to tears.

There were so many people in the room that we could not get in.

There was so much ink in the bottle that I spilled it.

We had so good a time at the party that we hated to leave.

They were all so tired (that) they could do nothing but yawn.

3.so that所以；以至于；因而；因此；結(jié)果

I was without money, so that I couldn’t buy the book.

He didn’t plan his time well, so that he didn’t finish the work in time.

4.such… that 這樣/如此……以至于

We left in such a hurry that we forgot to lock the door.

This is such a good dictionary that you ought to have it.

They are such fine sons and daughters of people that we all hold them in great respect.

This is such beautiful furniture that I’m thinking of buying it.

注：杜永文編著的《高階英語語法》(第三版) (中國對外翻譯出版公司 2007年7月第1版) P263認為 in such a manner that和in such a way that作為從屬連詞短語，除了表示結(jié)果以外，還兼有方式的含義，可以引導(dǎo)結(jié)果/程度狀語從句。例如：

The building must be designed in such a manner that it can stand any earthquake.

You must speak French in such a way that others can get you.

5.such that 如此……以至于

The effect of the medicine was such that the boy regained consciousness after half an hour.

The job is such that it demands the greatest skill.

6. that 因而；從而；所以；結(jié)果

Something may be wrong that the machine has stopped running.

What have I done that he should cut me?

He never played with the children that a quarrel did not follow.(= He never played with the children but(that ) a quarrel followed.)

7.to such an extent /a degree that 到了這種程度以致；甚至

He is mad to such an extent that he beat his father.

The temperature lowered to such a degree that the water froze.

注：杜永文編著的《高階英語語法》(第三版) (中國對外翻譯出版公司 2007年7月第1版) P261認為to the degree that作為從屬連詞短語，除了表示結(jié)果以外，還兼有程度的含義，可以引導(dǎo)結(jié)果/程度狀語從句。例如：

His disease is to the degree that it is beyond cures.

8. with the result that 其結(jié)果是；因此；從而

I was in the bath, with the result that I didn’t hear the phone.

Nothing more was heard of him, with the result that people thought he was dead.

注：孟德杰主編的《英語關(guān)連詞詞典》(中國國際廣播出版社 1991年11月北京第1版) P56認為：insomuch that屬于復(fù)合連詞，意思是“到……程度”，可以引導(dǎo)程度狀語從句。例如：

He worked very fast, insomuch that he was through in an hour.

P84: in the sense that屬于復(fù)合連詞，可以引導(dǎo)程度狀語從句。例如：

He was illiterate, in the sense that the written word was a mystery to him; but he could make uo a story…

5.7.4 連詞that引導(dǎo)目的狀語從句

根據(jù)趙俊英編著的《英語副詞用法•轉(zhuǎn)換形式詞典》(山東友誼出版社 1999年10月第1版) P833和章振邦主編的《新編英語語法》(第三版) (上海譯文出版社1997年1月第3版) P1224-1225, 以下包含that的復(fù)合連詞可以引導(dǎo)目的狀語從句。從句中謂語動詞常用may/might/should/can/could+動詞結(jié)構(gòu)。

1.for fear that 以防；以免；唯恐；不至于

Take an umbrella with you for fear that it may rain.

I checked all the results time and again for fear that there should be any mistakes.

2. for the purpose that【一般用于正式語體】 為了；以便

I gave him some sleeping pills for the purpose that he might sleep well.

3.in order that 為了；以便；為的是

I will send him our proposals now in order that he may have time to consider them.

We started early in order that we might arrive before dark.

4. so that 以便；為的是；為了

They gave their lives so that we might live a happy life.

So that the radio waves from one station will not get mixed up with the waves from another, each station is given a particular wave length and frequency.
