He is a very good student except that he is occasionally careless. The exercises are well done except that there are a few mistakes. 4.given that 考慮到;鑒于 Given that the patients have some disabilities, we still try to enable them to be as independent as possible. Given (the fact) that he’s had six months to do this, he hasn’t made much progress. 5.granted/granting that 假定 Granted that the data are reliable, what conclusion can you draw? Granting that scientists ought to be scientific, we are still puzzled by conflicts between an ideal life of intellectual activity and the demands of a very unideal world. Granting that this is true, how does it answer your argument? Granting that he has enough money to buy the house, it doesn’t mean he’s going to do so. Granted that it is so, what follow? Granting that he has enough money to buy the house, it doesn’t mean he’s going to do so. Granted that it is so, what follow? Granting that he has enough money to buy the house, it doesn’t mean he’s going to do so. Granted that you’ve made some progress, you should not be conceited. Granting that this is true, you are still in the wrong. Granted that you’ve made some progress, you should not be conceited. (表示讓步) Granted that you’ve made some progress, you should be satisfied. (表示條件) Granting that he has enough money to buy the house, it doesn’t mean he’s going to do so. (表示讓步) Granting that he has enough money to buy the house, he’s going to do so. (表示條件) Granted that he was drunk, that is no excuse for his fault. (表示讓步) Granted that he was drunk, that is an excuse for his fault. (表示條件) Granting that this is true, you are still in the wrong. (表示讓步) Granting that this is true, you are surely right. We want you to lead our air force in the event that we attack 7.on condition that 【多用于主句之后】只要;如果;在…… You can have this book for a few days on condition that you return it some time next week. I will send you the articles on condition that you pay in advance. 8. only that 除…… I have nothing against him, only that I dislike his manner. “Is anything the matter with you?” “No, only that I have got a headache.” 9. on the supposition that 假定 I will do it for her only on the supposition that she can’t do it herself. On supposition that you would be unable to go, I cancelled the arrangements. 10. on/with the understanding that 以…… I am willing to accept your offer on the understanding that I have a chance of advancement. Only with the understanding that I may cancel it any moment I may so desire, will I sign this agreement. 11. provided/providing that 如果;只要 Provided that no objection is raised, we shall hold the meeting here. Providing that the circumstances permit, they will visit 12.save/saving that 【多用于正式文體】除……之外 I am well save/saving that I have a cold. 13. so that 只要 You may go where you like, so that you are back by lunch time. So that it is done, it matters not how. 14. suppose/supposing that 假設;假若 Suppose that it is so, what follows? Supposing (that) there were no such force as gravitation, what would things be like? 15. with the provision that 以…… She accepted the job with the provision that she would be paid expenses for relocating.
